There's no question that people love their pets. According to Realtor.com 82% of Americans who planned to buy a home in 2023 considered their pets' needs as just as important if not more than theirs or their family's needs, and 72% said they would pass on an otherwise ideal home if it didn't work for their animals.

To many people, pets are family members that deserve as much love and attention as you'd give a child so it's no surprise that pet parents prioritize their fur babies when searching for a home.

Barkitecture refers to anything designed specifically for furry family members.

The barkitecture item highest on a pet lovers list according to Houzz is a doggy door followed by a wash station. Homes with cats may include elevated walkways or climbing structures added to entertain purr babies throughout the day.

For fresh air a little sunshine and a better bird watching experience a Catio will allow them to wander outside without encountering an unfriendly and may help to prevent them from catching so many presents for mom.

Built-in feeding stations on the side of kitchen cabinets or the island are a barkitecture need that offers better aesthetics and less mess than bowls sitting in random corners. Some even have a pot-filler faucet for the water bowl.

Enclosed cabinetry in the laundry room with a cat door offers a great way to tuck away the litter box while still being assessable for the cat’s use. It also helps keep the litter in the box instead of in your sheets.

A country-style twist on inflatable kiddie pools, according to an article in Better Homes and Gardens “stock tank pools are made using large tanks originally intended to be water troughs for farm livestock. Usually made of galvanized metal, the tanks can be filled with water and hooked up with a filter pump to create an outdoor wading pool." Investing in stock tanks designed specifically with pets in mind is a great Barkitecture idea to give Fido his own pool side retreat. Place it within site of the Catio, add a fountain and a splashpad and enjoy limitless bird watching and bonding experiences with your purr baby.

So if you are selling your home consider adding some of these pet friendly elements to create an animal lovers dream home and just maybe you will get better than the offer price you have been dreaming of!
